West Bengal Board of Secondary Education

WBBSE is a dedicated unit for regulating secondary education in West Bengal. The key functions of WBBSE are as follows:

  • Examination Administration: WBBSE is responsible for conducting and publishing the results of the Madhyamik (Std X) examination across the state.

  • Curriculum Development: WBBSE sets the curriculum for secondary education to be followed by schools across the state that enrols students for the Madhyamik course.

  • Secondary School Regulation: WBBSE is the sole authority in the state to award recognition to new secondary schools and to approve the upgrade of a primary/upper-primary school (up to Std VII) to the secondary level (up to Std X) enabling the school’s students to appear for the Madhyamik examination.

  • WBBSE approves the constitution of the Management Committee for secondary schools, monitors school performance and has the authority to approve sabbaticals and suspensions of secondary school teachers, as deemed appropriate.

  • Records Management: WBBSE maintains student records for facilitating verification of employee credentials on request of government employers, issue of transcripts for students going abroad, effecting corrections to issued certificates / admit cards etc.
